Description

This set of four pint glasses come straight from the RTD Archives. Featuring magazine covers from the 1940s and 1950s, the glasses make a great gift for anyone who loves Richmond’s unique history. And don’t forget to pick up a set for yourself, too!

Each glass is decorated with a vintage cover from The Times Dispatch Magazine, a colorful publication run by the paper for several years. During its publication, one Times-Dispatch advertisement described the magazine as “making a dull Sunday bright—and a bright Sunday brighter.” The RTD Archives has a collection of these magazines from 1949 and 1950.

The first set of its kind available from the RTD includes the following images:

- Family at the Capitol: Explored Richmond tourist destinations from July 9, 1950.

- Triple Crossing: The story behind Richmond’s unique railroad crossing, and the efforts taken to capture the cover photo, from October 23, 1949.

- Barber: A look at schools for barbers in Richmond from March 26, 1950.

St. Johns: A celebratory issue for St. Johns Church, which had just celebrated a birthday, from June 11, 1950.
